The much-awaited club football action returns to our lives as the international break gets over.

Chelsea moves to the top of the league, Liverpool a close second on goal difference, Watford faced with their first loss, Spurs with their second successive defeat and defending champions Manchester City back to winning ways.

Here are the five talking points from this weekend of premier league football in England.

Let’s start with the defending champions:

Manchester City return to winning ways

A sluggish performance before the international break saw the defending champions drop 2 important points at the rejuvenated Wolves’ home ground.  Pep Guardiola faced some criticism from a section of the City supporters for his continuous faith in error-prone City legend, Vincent Komapny.

Pep has a point to keep him in the team as nobody else brings the leadership and experience to the team like Vincent Komapny does on his day.

Kompany alone is not to blame for the draw as City clearly missed their talismanic midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne. Manchester City always looks dangerous whenever he is there in the middle, dictating play.

However, a win against a tricky Newcastle managed by Rafa Benitez and a convincing 3-0 win against newly promoted Fulham side propelled the City bandwagon forward. They now look ready to mount a fresh challenge to the title and defend their crown.

With KDB joining them later with more hunger, it will again be almost impossible to stop Man City.

Spurs continued with their shock defeat against Watford with a second successive defeat against Liverpool. Their target man Harry Kane failed to score in both the matches as Spurs continue to struggle.

Spurs are in the virtual Group of Death in the Champions League with the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan, and PSV in it. So they can’t afford to drop any points at any stage. With the Champions League matches beginning this week, Spurs have a difficult away encounter against Inter within 3 days of this defeat. They will have to quickly go back to their winning ways if they wish to challenge on both fronts.

The next comparatively easier premier league game against Brighton could prove to be the perfect opportunity for them to focus more on the Champions League and then deal with the premier league winless streak later.

Watford faced defeat for the first time

Watford looks like the surprise package this season, much like Burnley from the previous season.

Fans have gone to such extents that they started finding similarities between Watford’s last season statistics at this stage with the Leicester’s season statistics in a similar stage in the season prior to their dream Premier League run to glory; suggesting Watford might pull something of similar sorts this season.

The fans, however, aren’t far off from their wild theories as Watford conjured win after win in their first four games into this season. They couldn’t continue with the dream run as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to a super motivated Manchester United at home. There was a slight possibility of a late comeback as Andre Gray reduced the 2 goal advantage of Manchester United from the first half. But it was not to be and Watford can only look forward to further tricky away fixtures to Fulham and Arsenal.

Expect the unexpected with Watford this season.

Liverpool mean business this time

Jurgen Klopp’s appointment was the beginning of an era of revolution at Liverpool. His passion for the game, connection with fans and players alike, and brand of heavy metal football are just what Liverpool fans needed since their glory days of past. It was like a match made in heaven.

Liverpool came painstakingly close to winning the Champions League last season but a couple of unfortunate incidents involving their talisman and the keeper stopped them from achieving this dream. In the premier league too they had the most fearsome attack, but prior to the acquisition of Van Dijk in their team after the first half of the league, their defense was always susceptible to leak goals.

This season however they mean business as they have addressed their weak areas and further solidified the midfield with the transfers of Fabinho, Shaqiri and Naby Keita. But their most important purchase would be acquiring the services of arguably one of the top five goalkeepers today; Alisson.

Liverpool has conceded only 2 goals in their first five matches this season and their defense has never been looked so solid in recent years. This gives their fearsome front three of Mane, Firmino, and Salah a freedom to attack without having any concerns at the back.

You have to be very foolish or very bold to bet against Liverpool this season.

Sarrismo at Chelsea

Chelsea was high and dry by the sudden departure of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid at the beginning of this season. World transfer record holder for a keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, could be termed more as a panic purchase rather than a well thought out move. However, Chelsea owner made a very smart move by acquiring the services of Maurizio Sarri from Napoli.

Sarri’s attacking style of play is well-known in a league which historically has been famous for being the most difficult league for attackers due to the tactically and physically strong defenders there. Sarri even added an admirer in Pep Guardiola when their teams met in the group stages of Champions League last season.

Sarri’s brought along Napoli’s passmaster, Jorginho, to implement his style of play in Chelsea. His style of play became so famous that people even invented a word for it and included it in the biggest Italian encyclopedia. Sarrismo or Sarriball.

This could well be just the right kind of environment Eden Hazard needed to reach the full potential of his talents. A hat-trick in their latest game against Cardiff City could just be the beginning of a fantastic season for both Chelsea and Hazard.

With five wins out of five and a healthy goal difference, Chelsea already looks the prime contenders to challenge the defending champions, Manchester City, for their crown.

So the long wait is over and the premier league finally goes underway. A premier league season after a World Cup year always feels like the perfect tonic for the World Cup hangover. It becomes much more exciting when the prospect of watching promising talents and proven managers come together in a single league. Here is a list of top 10 exciting new faces in the English Premier League to look out for and include in your Fantasy Premier League team.

  1. Jorginho (Chelsea)

With the signings of the pair of manager and the key player from Napoli, Chelsea looks the most probable team to challenge Man City and Guardiola for the title while playing their brand of football. Guardiola made no secret of his admiration of manager Sarri’s style of play at Napoli and in Jorginho, Chelsea managed to sign Napoli’s engine room which made them tick. He is a renowned pass master and an extremely smart player. Chelsea’s midfield will be the one to look out for this season with the likes of Fabregas and Jorginho dictating the play and Hazard and Willian doing their damages from the wings.

  1. Richarlison (Everton)
Richarlison Everton

For the EPL followers, Richarlison wouldn’t be a name unheard of. He made his premier league debut last season with Watford and looked the most dangerous player Watford had to offer in attack. But a switch to Everton this season might prove to be his break-away season at the dawn of his career. Still 21 years of age and a rich Brazilian heritage, he is one of the exciting talents to look out for the future and in your Fantasy Premier League team.

  1. Bernard (Everton)

Another Everton player and Brazilian on the list. Looks like Everton is building an exciting project at Goodison Park pitting two Brazilians upfront in attack and let them do their magic. Still only 25 years old, he was phenomenal for Shakhtar last season in their premier league and in Europe, scoring 10 goals in 28 appearances in total while playing as an attacking midfielder. With an only £6.0m price tag in Fantasy Premier League, he could be a good buy for some managers looking to bolster their attack with goal-scoring midfielders.

  1. Yerry Mina (Everton)

It looks like you just can’t finish up with the hype of Everton this season. Yerry Mina was the last minute addition for Everton squad from Barcelona. He will be the third FC Barcelona player join the Toffees in recent times along with Andre Gomez and Lucas Digne.  Yerry Mina had his fair share of struggles while adjusting to the technicalities and style of play of FC Barcelona, but his World Cup showings with Colombia proved that he can be an important asset for any team to have in defense and set pieces. The ridiculously tall and burly defender should not find it difficult to adjust to the pace and physicality of English club football. Also, his towering headers from set pieces are another nice addition in attack for Everton. If you want a goal-scoring defender in your Fantasy Premier League team, Yerry Mina is the answer for you.

  1. Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

This left-sided midfielder set the Championship on fire last season while helping Fulham getting promoted back to EPL after 4 years in Championship football wilderness. Fulham doesn’t want to let this opportunity go by and look like a team on a mission with the exciting coup like signings of Andre Schurrle, Jean Michael Seri, Aleksandr Mitrovic along with a handful others. But this 18-year-old kid will be the one to look out for in this fresh and exciting Fulham team this season. He was their highest scorer with 16 goals and 8 assists in the Championship. With a plethora of attacking talents around him this season, he could prove to be deadlier than last season.

  1. James Maddison (Leicester City)

He was another talent who lit the Championship on fire for Norwich City with his displays from the midfield. This 21-year-old midfielder amassed a total of 15 goals and 11 assists for Norwich City in their 2017-18 season. Now playing for Leicester against mighty Manchester United, he was the popular player of the match choice in their opening game of the 2018-19 season in EPL. This is no small feat to achieve this playing against the likes of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford. He looked totally in control of the match and could have at least tied the match for Leicester City but for some early misfortune to go behind on a penalty. He could still prove to be the key figure for Leicester City in the remaining 37 matches of the season.

  1. Ruben Neves (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Another Championship talent to play in EPL this season. He couldn’t have asked for a better start on his debut for Wolves against Everton; scoring a peach of a free-kick goal and providing an assist in the 2-2 opening game draw. A burly 21-year-old defensive midfielder, he has the perfect setup to showcase his talent to the world. In his fellow countrymen, he will have the perfect partner in Joao Moutinho in midfield for Wolves. With both the players playing in tandem, you can expect Wolves to cause some major upsets this season and help some big teams decide the title.

  1. Daniel Arzani (Manchester City)

This 19-year-old Australian player of Iranian origin could be the next big Aussie name to play in the premier league after Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Mark Schwarzer, Tim Cahill and Aaron Mooy of late. In Manchester City, he will have the perfect setting to develop his game to the next level under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola. He created a buzz before and during the World Cup 2018 for Australia and was ably rewarded with his transfer to EPL defending champions this term. His game time will be limited due to the presence of a plethora of talents available at City, but back him to mark his presence whenever a chance will be given to him.

  1. Fabinho (Liverpool)

His transfer from AS Monaco team was gleefully accepted by the Liverpool fans who couldn’t have asked for more. He could prove to be the presence Liverpool needed in its midfield to back up its blistering attack and recently formed solid defense. His exploits with AS Monaco helped them to reach the Champions League semi-final one year back. Since then he has been a target for many big clubs around Europe, but he rejected all to join Liverpool this term. Liverpool is building a dynasty and he could play an important part in the story.

  1. Naby Keita (Liverpool)

Another exciting Liverpool signing from RB Leipzig this season and Liverpool fans cannot contain their happiness. Naby Keita is an exciting addition to the attacking trio of Salah, Mane, and Firmino of Liverpool. His eye-catching performances for RB Leipzig aren’t a secret to any avid football follower. His lip smacking move to Liverpool makes them real contenders for the crown of English Premier League and Champions League this season. Along with Jurgen Klopp and his famous heavy metal brand of football, Naby Keita would be restless to dazzle his way to glory in Liverpool jersey.
